The Land Rover has become a respectable pedigreed marque that is instantly recognizable as one of the most popular, reliable and exceptionally versatile all-terrain vehicle long before the H1 Hummer or those SUVs came along. What started out in 1948 as a British version of the World War II vintage Jeep from Willys has evolved into a fully-functional utility vehicle that respects no treacherous land surfaces, creating a world-wide following first in the military but soon extended into the farms and expeditions from the Antarctica to the safaris of Africa, the outbacks of Australia and the rainforests of South America.

Never tinker with a successful product. That's basically the philosophy behind the Land Rover successes over the years. Styling changes have been very minimal with the Defender smoothly evolving from the Land Rover 90, 110 and 127/130 of the 80s which had little to differ with from the Series III Land Rovers. But there were improvements such as a choice of 2.5-liter Diesel Turbo and a larger 3.2 V8 petrol engine, coil springs for a more comfy ride, permanent 4-wheel drive system taken from the Range Rover line, a more luxuriant interior but certainly not at par with those on the modern SUVs and lastly, a one-piece windscreen.

By the 1990s, there have been some marketing and branding changes in the Land Rover with the release of the Discovery Model that pioneered the subsequent naming convention of newer models. No longer would it be an enhanced 110 or 130 but you now have the Landrover Defender.

Sporting the same 2.5-liter diesel engine but with improved turbo charging, direct injection and intercooling in the 200Tdi, the Defender was able to cruise comfortably at higher speeds with 111 BHP power. Throughout the 90s, it became inevitable for Land Rover to produce wheelbase length variants under the Defender name and promptly came out with the Defender 90, Defender 110 and Defender 130 to distinguish each other. The Land Rover Station Wagon model using the 110 and 130 wheelbase became quite popular until today.

Both would come in various edition trims with the 3-door E, S and SE variants and the 5-door models coming in E, S, SE, HSE, Sport and Sport Premium trims. In 2004, the Freelander had a major facelift in the Mark 1 version sporting a new interior and external updates like a new front face and rear.
Under the hood, the Freelander came in different inline 4-cylinder engines starting with the 1.8-liter Rover K-series badges as 1.8i but not sold in the US. Then there's the 2.0-liter Rover L-series badged1.8 Di between 1997 and 2001 that was replaced by the BMW M47 diesel badged TD4 from 2001 until its production end in 2006.

Land rover gear is available at any major SUV accessories store and is not hard to find owing to the popularity of landies. Land rover is a range of four-wheel drive vehicles manufactured by a United Kingdom company of the same name. The company rolled out its first model in 1948. This is the second oldest four-wheel drive vehicle after Jeep. In 2000, Ford bought the company and then again India's Tata Motors acquired the company in June 2008 along with Jaguar. Land rover gear is mostly manufactured by third-party manufacturers.

For almost 10 years, from 1997 to 2006, the first generation Freelanders had just two basic models - the 3-door softback semi-convertible SUV and a 5-door Estate SUV. But it's interesting to note that the 3-door model also had sub-models that included a hardback and commercial van versions.

Range-Rover-Sport Exterior - 8.6 (Very Good):The Range Rover Sport distinguishes itself from its Range Rover sibling with a slightly more sloping profile, but reviewers say the Sport still manages to deliver the posh style that Land Rovers are known for. Changes for 2010 include revised lights and bumpers, but most people would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the 2009 and 2010 models

Land Rover lovers all over the world know that the Range Rover is the flag-ship of the fleet and the most desired of them all. Land Rover started production of the Range Rover in 1970 and basically had the same design until 1995. There were slight re-design changes to the models from 1995 to 2002 but basically you could still see the old Range Rover design. I still believe old Land Rover used cars like these, are the most popular ones of all.

The all new 2010 Range Rover LR4 model is stomping its older sibling, the 2009 LR3 leaving it far behind in its shadow. Critics agree that it is far superior and a much more powerful ride than the earlier version. The 2009 LR3 offered the 4.4L, 300hp V8 that offered a great deal of power to the LR3 but affecting gas a bit, only offering 12 mpg, city miles. The 2010 LR4 is offering a 5L 375hp V8 engine offering even greater power, without damaging the fuel economy further. For so much power, it is quite amazing that the 2010 LR4 is offering the same gas mileage as the 2009 LR3.

With the powerful engine, the 2010 variant can achieve 12 miles per gallon in the city premises, while 18 miles per gallon on the highway roads. The engine produces power of 375 hp at the rate of 6500 rotations per minute and torque of 375 lb ft at the rate of 3500 rotations per minute.
