Add to that R&D teams from General Motor, Volkswagen, Nissan and others pumping out batteries of their own and the next five to ten years looks like a bright and evolutionary time in the automotive industry. And all I can say is thank god. Now let us focus on how to make the electricity powering this new type of car renewable and environmentally friendly.

The car seats five adults, with additional seating for two children in rear-facing third row of seats beneath the rear hatch. The rear seats fold down to allow transport of large items. Because the car does not have a conventional engine in front, there is a second trunk beneath the hood.

Toyota will go into production with it RAV 4 powered by Tesla batteries in early 2012. About the same time Tesla's own step into the commercial car market with it innovative Sedan the Model S.

The car is electronically limited to 135 miles per hour, and Tesla claims a zero-to-sixty time of 5.6 seconds. The standard model is rear-wheel-drive, while all-wheel-drive will be available as an option. The Model S uses a single-speed transmission, allowing for what the manufacturer says is smooth, even power delivery.

The Tesla Model S uses a single-speed transmission

Tesla Motors has announced production of the right-hand-drive version of its iconic Tesla Roadster sports car, the only highway-capable electric vehicle for sale worldwide. The 2010 Tesla Roadster UK-Version includes a suite of unique noise-reduction materials.

Testing of the Roadster has stated its performance at 0-60 in 3.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 125mph, it will out-drag a Ferrari and with the advantages of electronic torque, will keep you pinned in your seat from the moment your foot touches the pedal, all in silence.

Leverage an existing sports car (the compact and impressive-handling Lotus Elise), add Tesla’s lithium-ion battery pack (generating 200 kilowatts of juice—sufficient to propel the 288-horsepower pocket-rocket from 0 - 60 in less than 4 seconds), and prove to enthusiasts and the press that electric vehicles are a compelling alternative. Enthusiasts raved.

Electric car maker Tesla Motors has been getting a lot of press over the past year as the automaker launched its gorgeous Tesla Roadster, an all-electric sports model that can go from zero to sixty mph in just 3.5 seconds. After numerous delays, a transmission swap out, and management changes, the Roadster finally went into production earlier this year.
