The 2010 Camaro is one of the few cars to come out of the design studio looking very much like it's prototype. Rather than deliver an updated fifth generation version of the Camaro, the sometimes overused retro theme was selected, hearkening back to the design cues that made the car such a big hit when it debuted in 1967. But Chevrolet did a terrific job of evoking the flavor of the past with modern creature comforts. But how is it to drive the new 2010 Camaro?

Camaro RS

Various trim levels are available to make the car suit your taste, but most people will look at one of two currently available models: the RS and SS variants. My first test drive was with the six cylinder powered RS (for rally Sport) version. This V6 is a version of the General Motors corporate engine that goes in many of their cars these days. With Direct Injection and other modern technologies, this engine makes over 300 horsepower. For reference, the last of the fourth generation Camaro's only made around 20 more horsepower, and that was with a V8.

From the Cockpit

Standard equipment on the 2010 Camaro is plentiful, but some materials are a bit hard on the eyes and a bit less soft to the touch for a car at this price point. The dark interior contrasts the thin slit of light coming in through the very cool looking, but hard to see out of windows. Some function is, sadly, sacrificed in the name of form and selling more cars.

The RS may be the best deal for many, with the standard independent rear suspension and light six cylinder engine contributing to a light front end with enough power to make the RS a great handling car. Autocrossers may like the RS for just this reason. But what the six lacks, besides a power bump to V8 territory, is the kick in the pants power and sound of the corporate LS series engines installed in more expensive models. Without further ado, we move on the the Camaro "King of the Hill".

Camaro SS

The Super Sport model endeavors to recall the days of big block power. Chevrolet's website states that this 6.2 liter V8 can get a real world 19 miles per gallon in the EPA test cycle. But with 422 horsepower on tap, many will not be able to restrain themselves enough to see their best mileage. In fact, after driving the SS, it was hard to return it to the dealer. The SS does everything the RS does, but with more force. The handling is somewhat compromised by the heavier engine, but the suspension does a good job of reigning that in. Should understeer become an issue, judicious (not unbridled, particularly with the SS) application of the throttle will help that independent rear step out and correct the vehicles' direction.

Conclusion

With a mimimum of 300 horsepower and some impressive standard equipment, the 2010 Camaro is fun. Check off the option box for that SS engine and you will feel superhuman when behind the wheel. Although outward visibility is somewhat compromised, there will be no mistake when you come down the road that this is anything but a Camaro. Considering all of this, it's not surprising that this vehicle has earned the status of a Consumer's Digest Best Buy.

The 2011 Synergy is a follow up to last year's Synergy Green special-edition car, which proved popular enough for Chevy to make the series an annual affair. The 2011 model gets a Cyber Gray exterior finish with an exclusive gray interior featuring red accent stitching throughout, along with a combination of parts that are not available on the normal production models.

The second special edition model is the XM/Accessory Appearance Package, which will be available with the V6 engine only. It comes in an Imperial Blue color sporting several standard goodies such as 21-inch wheels and cold air intake system.

Finally, the two concept models are the Camaro Red Flash and SSX Track Car, each crafted with a blend of original Chevy accessories and new concept parts that could be made available in the near future. Hit the jump for detailed info on specs and a high-res photo gallery.

The Chevy Volt has not even been launched into the United States market yet, but General Motors has already announced that it will increase the cars production numbers in 2012. The Chevy Volt is a highly anticipated plug-in hybrid electric vehicle which makes use of energy stored in lithium-ion batteries to drive power itself for the first 40 miles. The car does not require a special charging station, but instead makes use of a residential electrical outlet. Although 40 miles does not seem like a very long range it is actually longer than the daily commute of 75% of American commuters.

General Motors has announced that the production numbers will go up from 30,000 annually to 45,000 annually in 2012. Some Chevy dealers had already begun trying to profit off of the Volt's low production numbers by telling interested customers that they are selling the car at a premium. Chevrolet is completely against this practice and the company has warned dealers not to engage in such activity. The release of the Volt will also be limited to only seven states by December of 2010 and there is currently no word on when the rest of the country will be able to purchase the car. The Volt has come under some scrutiny for its $41,000 price tag, but customers will be pleased to know that there is a $7,500 tax credit on the car which will help significantly reduce the price of the vehicle in the end. General Motors future success in the market of hybrid vehicles relies on today's success of the Chevrolet Volt. Luckily for GM the car seems to be off to a great start.

The author has just recently started writing about wine and wine glass racks. It is important for consumers to understand the advantage of a good under cabinet wine glass rack. Wine racks can help consumers in several ways. Don't forget to take a look at his latest work on the modern day Wine Glass Rack.

After we showed you some of the designs a few days ago, the plainly-named Chevrolet Volt MPV5 crossover concept has rolled silently out of the gates.

Big things first: power comes from GM's lithium ion T-battery and a 1.4 liter engine generator, as one would expect. The battery will provide 51.5 km / 32 miles per charge, while the gasoline generator contributes an extra 482 km / 299.5 miles.

So, what is it other than a smaller Orlando with a Volt nose-job and power train? An expander, that's what. This model is GM's next step in creating a new sub-brand within GM, much like Audi's upcoming e-tron line.

The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 market has softened significantly in the last 12-18 months. The global recession is being felt in the collector car market. A few years ago a 1969 Camaro Z28, any Camaro really, looked to be a rocketship investment, regularly reaching six-figure bids. Now, good to great examples can be had for between $40-$60k.

That said, first generation Camaros have a lot going for them that will always keep them desirable. For one, they are handsome machines, well-proportioned with aggressive muscle car bodywork sure to turns heads. Secondly, the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was designed specifically as a modern version of the 1969 classic. Finally, they are oh so fun to drive!

The design of the all-new Chevrolet Camaro has been acclaimed by critics and celebrated by sports car buyers. With that appeal as a springboard, Chevrolet designers created the Red Flash Camaro SS Show Car to extend Camaro's look - and even its sound - to a new level.

RChevrolet Camaro ed Flash combines Chevrolet Accessory parts available today with some specially designed new concepts from the design studio, resulting in a unique new Camaro statement. Its Red Jewel exterior color is accented with gray heritage stripes and gray-accented 21-inch wheels. Under the hood, a Chevrolet Accessory air intake kit and, out back, the accessory exhaust kit, enhance the car's performance, style and sound.

In the interim, GM is expected to tweak the Impala slightly to give it at least a fighting chance among non-fleet owners. Already a fleet favorite, the Impala is largely eschewed by the car buying public who seems enamored with the competition. The changes expected to arrive beginning in 2012 may include GM dropping both engine choices replacing these aged powerplants with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine found in many other GM models. That engine would be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, giving the Impala one of the more modern powerplant combinations in its segment.

The news hasn't been all bad for the Impala as this model continues to outsell the Ford Taurus. However, profit lines on the Taurus are much higher, a model available in front- and all-wheel-drive and a sometimes competitor for upscale European and Japanese luxury brand shoppers. The Impala offers no such competition and must rely heavily on fleet sales to drum up sales.

"The all-new Chevrolet Sonic blends the practicality of a small car with the passion for driving that Chevrolet vehicles like the Corvette are known for," said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "Its combination of great design, fun driving experience and the latest connectivity features create a serious competitor with a fun spirit."

Production of the Chevrolet Sonic begins later in 2011 at the General Motors Orion Assembly Center in Michigan, which received a $545-million investment in upgrades and retooling, and will help restore approximately 1,000 jobs in the metropolitan Detroit area.

Exterior Enhancements: Visually, exterior enhancements include a redesigned fascia mated with an aluminum hood featuring a raised, carbon fiber insert. New vertical fog lamps, air intakes, air extractors, HID headlamps and a rear diffuser and spoiler are among the particulars offered. The forged-aluminum wheels are the same size as the 20-inch wheels found on the Camaro SS, but are lighter and paired with Goodyear Supercar F2 tires.

Inside, the Camaro ZL1 offers front seats with microfiber suede inserts, a redesigned steering wheel, alloy pedals, head-up display with performance readouts and the 4-pack auxiliary gauge system with boost readout. ZL1 logos are affixed on the door sills; rear parking assist and a rear-view camera with display are standard. A premium sound system comes courtesy of Boston Acoustics; the steering wheel features audio controls with Bluetooth capability.

History Chevrolet was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss-French race-car driver, and William C. Durant, an American and former founder of General Motors who had been forced out of the company in 1910. Durant and Chevrolet were previously acquainted as Durant had hired Chevrolet to drive Buicks in promotional races prior to his founding of GM.

The "bowtie" logo used by Chevy was first used in 1913. Originally thought to have been inspired by the wallpaper Durant once saw in a French hotel, recent research shows that the design may be based on a logo for "Coalettes". In 1915 Durant was setting up production for Chevrolet vehicles in Toronto, Canada during which they agreed Chevys with with McLaughlin-designed bodies would be built. Within three years both companies had been purchased by General Motors and became General Motors of Canada Ltd.

Chevrolet Aveo

The Chevrolet Aveo was introduced by GM in 2004 as a much needed inexpensive compact that was also good on gas. The Aveo was geared toward younger families as well as students looking for their first car. When designing this car GM had the young in mind and included options that would appeal to a younger buyer such as bright color choices, MP3 enabled sound system and carbon fiber trim. Currently the Aveo is also available as a 5 door hatchback or the original sub compact.

So that was a little history on the Chevy Aveo, now let's talk tires. Generally the tires are pretty basic on this car especially for the small family who is using the car for transportation. If you are a student and customizing the car for looks or performance by adding larger wheels and low profile tires that is a whole different ball of wax that we will cover in another post. Today we are concentrating on stock tires to keep things simple. So when replacing tires we must keep in mind that this car is a sub compact and is very lightweight. The car is also not a sports car so does not require the use of performance tires. Purchasing anything more than a basic tire for this car will be overkill. In most cases a standard all season will be the best tire for this car. If you live where there is severe winter driving conditions, then I would recommend running snow tires in the winter. Remember this car is lightweight and can slide on ice fairly easy so a good set of snow tires will not only give you traction but will give you much better braking performance in the winter.

So to recap the Aveo is a basic car that needs basic tires. Don't go overboard on tires and purchase a performance rated tire as you will be wasting your money. If you run the car in severe winter weather it is recommended that you run winter tires on this car for both traction and safety reasons. The Aveo is a great economical car. The cost savings should also be reflected in the cost of tires as it is with the initial cost of the car as well as the gas mileage.

Really Coming The Chevy Traverse 2011

With the expected rare use of the gas and generator, there are concerns about having unused gas going stale unnoticed. The engine must occasionally be cycled to keep this from happening as well as to keep the parts lubricated. Regular monitoring of the gas situation is being done by the vehicle's computer. A message will be given to the driver of the need to let the generator go and thus the need to go beyond the EV range. When the warning is ignored after two times, the Volt will start its generator to burn some fuel on its own which will stop upon completion of the engine and fuel maintenance mode. The car goes back to pure EV operation after.

After seeing the concept and production versions through news releases and at the North American International Auto Show, I was fascinated by the idea of viable plug-in electric vehicle. General Motors attempted to break into this market with the EV1 in the 1990s, but that particular model just never caught on. The automaker went back to the drawing board for the design of the Volt.

Chevy's 3.6-liter V6 engine powers the Traverse, when matched to a six speed automatic transmission with an optional manual control the lower trim levels produce 281 bhp and 266 lb-ft. of torque. The addition of Dual exhaust in the LTZ package ups output to 288 bhp and 270 lb-ft. of torque. With a 0-60 time of 8.6 seconds, the Chevy Traverse will not burn up your local drag strip, but is certainly fast enough to merge onto the highway without incident. The EPA estimates fuel economy in the front wheel drive model at 17mpg city/24 mpg highway with a combined average of 19 mpg. The all-wheel drive option has similar results (16/23/19 respectively). When properly equipped the Traverse can tow up to 5200lbs.
