The model is a compact 5-door hatchback that runs only on electric motor. According to the specifications, we can go with this car a distance of between 130-175 kilometers before you need to reload the batteries. The time you can spend in front of the steering wheel of this car depends on various factors such as temperature, speed, driving style and load. But do not worry because the manufacturers have introduced to this model of Nissan a regenerative braking system (regenerative breaking) that uses the energy, that results from braking, to charge car batteries, extending the autonomy of running.
This is the first time in history when a one hundred percentage electric car, Nissan leaf, gets the distinction of "The Car of the Year." It's amazing that Nissan Leaf reached to the final with Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Opel Meriva, Ford C-Max, Citroen C3, Volvo S60 and Dacia Duster. Even more, it surpassed the Giulietta model from Alfa Romeo with nine points and with thirteen points the Meriva model of the Opel.
The participating cars were voted by a jury of 59 members from 23 countries. Among the jury had participated Steve Cropley, representatives of Autocar.co.uk, who said that he supported very much the electric model of Nissan, so it was his first option on the voting list, and the second option was the Dacia Duster model.
Other awards of this amazing car are: Popular Mechanics 2010 Breakthrough Award, the 2010 Green Car of the Year by "The Green Car Website", 2011 European Car of the Year, one of the five finalists for the 2011 Green Car of the Year awarded by the Green Car Journal, and one of the 50 best inventions of 2009 named so by Time magazine.
