The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 market has softened significantly in the last 12-18 months. The global recession is being felt in the collector car market. A few years ago a 1969 Camaro Z28, any Camaro really, looked to be a rocketship investment, regularly reaching six-figure bids. Now, good to great examples can be had for between $40-$60k.

That said, first generation Camaros have a lot going for them that will always keep them desirable. For one, they are handsome machines, well-proportioned with aggressive muscle car bodywork sure to turns heads. Secondly, the all-new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was designed specifically as a modern version of the 1969 classic. Finally, they are oh so fun to drive!

The 2011 Infiniti QX56 produces 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque from its 5.6-liter engine, 80 more horsepower and 20 more pound-feet than its predecessor, with equal displacement. As a result, performance is unsurprisingly better. Routed to all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox, all that power is good for a zero-to-60 sprint of just 6.1 seconds, and a standing quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds at 93.9 mph. The QX56 actually manages to return 10 percent better fuel economy than the model it replaces, with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive models being rated at 14 city, 20 highway miles per gallon

Exterior

The exterior design gets a new, bold front chrome grille flanked by automatic on/off bi-functional xenon headlights, body color running boards, body color integrated front and rear splash guards built into the wheel arches, roof rails, power sliding tinted glass moon roof and a power rear lift gate. The 2011 QX56 is also 1.4-inches longer, 1.1-inches wider and 3.8-inches lower in overall height than its predecessor.

It is interesting to note that the 66 Shelby GT 350H also had Magnum 500 wheels. The Magnum 500 wheels didn't make there appearance on the factory Ford cars until 1969.

At the time the cars quickly became known as rent a racers. It was not uncommon to have people rent that cars for the week and take them to the local track for some fun. In fact many cars came back from weekend rentals with holes drilled in the floor boards where the roll bars had been installed and then removed. Once Hertz completed the rental terms on the cars most were sold to Ford dealers across the country to be re-sold. Surprising to us now the dealers had a hard time selling the cars because of their rental history. At the time they sold on dealers lots for around $2,500.00. I'd love to buy a few for $2500.00 today.

Power

The GT's V8 engine is a naturally aspirated 24-valve SOHC unit with a 3.55-inch bore, 3.54-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 9.8 to 1. The Mustang GT's V8 is 300 hp at 5,750 rpm and 320 ft.-lbs of torque at 4,500 rpm. The V8-powered GT model boasts a lot of horsepower and driving dynamics that, in a departure from Mustangs past, are actually pretty impressive. Two engines are offered in the Mustang. Base versions are powered by a 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 with 210 hp. GT models get the sonorous 4.6-liter V-8 with 300 hp. Both engines come standard with a five-speed manual transmission; a five-speed automatic is optional.

In the interim, GM is expected to tweak the Impala slightly to give it at least a fighting chance among non-fleet owners. Already a fleet favorite, the Impala is largely eschewed by the car buying public who seems enamored with the competition. The changes expected to arrive beginning in 2012 may include GM dropping both engine choices replacing these aged powerplants with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine found in many other GM models. That engine would be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, giving the Impala one of the more modern powerplant combinations in its segment.

The news hasn't been all bad for the Impala as this model continues to outsell the Ford Taurus. However, profit lines on the Taurus are much higher, a model available in front- and all-wheel-drive and a sometimes competitor for upscale European and Japanese luxury brand shoppers. The Impala offers no such competition and must rely heavily on fleet sales to drum up sales.

Exterior Enhancements: Visually, exterior enhancements include a redesigned fascia mated with an aluminum hood featuring a raised, carbon fiber insert. New vertical fog lamps, air intakes, air extractors, HID headlamps and a rear diffuser and spoiler are among the particulars offered. The forged-aluminum wheels are the same size as the 20-inch wheels found on the Camaro SS, but are lighter and paired with Goodyear Supercar F2 tires.

Inside, the Camaro ZL1 offers front seats with microfiber suede inserts, a redesigned steering wheel, alloy pedals, head-up display with performance readouts and the 4-pack auxiliary gauge system with boost readout. ZL1 logos are affixed on the door sills; rear parking assist and a rear-view camera with display are standard. A premium sound system comes courtesy of Boston Acoustics; the steering wheel features audio controls with Bluetooth capability.

That said, we find it hard to explain the sale of the car by German luxury and supercar dealer, Auto Salon Singen, on Mobile.de. In the description, the alleged seller claims that Lamborghini will build 10 examples of the Sesto Elemento, but they won't be street legal. The price of the... future supercar is set at €2,261,900 including 19% VAT (tax), or just shy of US$3 million. Any explanation(s) are welcome.'

Volkswagen has dropped pricing details for the new Amarok pickup truck in Britain. At launch, the Amarok will be offered only as a double-cab in three trim levels and with a choice of two turbo diesel engines.
