Though this puzzle is still missing a few pieces, we do have a pretty complete picture of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster based on hints from Hyundai itself and intel and spy photos from various sources. For starters, the tight 2-seat concept of 2007 has been stretched into a 2+2. That means a token rear seat and an additional 7.3 inches of overall length, according to Britain's Autocar magazine. Of that, about 4 inches shows up in wheelbase by our reckoning. Width and height are little changed.

Though Mr. Krafcik says the production model is "Accent-sized," the dimensions suggest underpinnings shared with the redesigned 2011 Elantra. As a result, and contrary to some reports, the 2012 Hyundai Veloster will be visibly larger than a Mini Cooper Clubman, let alone the shorter, mainstay Mini hatchback. It's actually closer in size to the outgoing Scion tC.
