The power to the vehicle comes from a 3.5 liter Inline-6 engine that produces power up to 277 bhp at an angular speed of 6500 rpm and torque of 243 lb ft at an angular speed of 5000 rpm. The mid mounted engine has cast iron block and the vehicle is offered in rear wheel drive and it has four valves per cylinder and dual overhead camshaft. The engine in the BMW M1 has bore size of 93.4 mm and stroke of 84 mm. The engine is mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission.
One such speculative mock-up was ItalDesign’s Nazca M12 of 1991 featuring a mid-mounted V12 and BMW’s ubiquitous rear wheel drive. The Italian design house also presented a race-spec version of the car called the Nazca C2 at the 1992 Tokyo Motor Show, followed by a Spyder model in 1993.
